What is Options?

Options are derivative instruments that grant the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call) or sell (put) an underlying crypto asset at a predetermined strike price on or before a specified expiration date. Sellers (writers) of these contracts collect a premium from buyers in exchange for taking on the obligation to fulfill the trade if exercised. Crypto options trade on both centralized platforms, such as Deribit and the CME, and decentralized protocols, and are settled either in the underlying coin or in a stablecoin/fiat equivalent, with pricing driven by factors including spot price, strike price, time to expiration, and implied volatility.

How CryptoUmmah screens Options coins

As with every category we track, coins here are screened individually against our 27-point methodology across the three core pillars — riba (interest), gharar (uncertainty), and maysir (speculation/gambling) — rather than being judged by category label alone. Two coins sharing this tag can land on very different verdicts depending on their specific tokenomics, revenue model, and governance structure. Across the 7 Options coins we've screened, the average Shariah compliance score sits at 45.3/100, with 0% classified Halal, 14% Mashbooh, and 86% Haram.
